Frances Williams: collage in paper

Frances’ passion for working with wax resist on both paper and cotton grew from studies with Jo Dixon and Jenny O’Leary in Oxfordshire. She works mainly in contemporary abstract forms or forms derived from nature. Her inspiration comes from the many artists she has taught as an art historian, as well as from exhibitions and from nature. An engagement with colour is an integral part of her work.

Frances constantly looks for ways to explore reality, whether of nature, architecture or everyday objects. She wants to push the boundaries of representation to reveal what is of particular interest. This can result in a response to a detail or to the whole, to the form, the design or to line. The contemporary abstract forms in her work reflect this objective, with colour always an integral part of her work.

Frances has a particular interest in designing with wax and painting with inks on different papers, making framed works and a wide range of greetings cards.

A member of West Oxfordshire Arts and Cheltenham Open Studios, she exhibits mainly in Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.
